Honda K-Swap Guide: K20 vs K24, What Fits, and What You Actually Get
The K-series swap is the most popular engine swap in the Honda world for good reason: huge power potential, strong bottom ends, and bolt-in support for almost every chassis. Here is how to pick the right K motor and what to check before you buy.
K20 vs K24: the short version
The K20 is the high-revving 2.0L — think Type R and RSX, with the strongest factory head flow and the most aggressive VTEC. The K24 is the 2.4L torque motor — more displacement, more low-end, and a favorite base for the classic K24 block with K20 head build. Want top-end scream? K20. Want streetable torque? K24.
Which K-series fits my chassis?
- EG / EK / DC2 (90s Civic and Integra): the classic K-swap — needs swap mounts, axles, and a shifter setup.
- EP3 / DC5 (RSX, Civic Si): K-series from the factory, the easiest path.
- ES / EM2 (01-05 Civic): popular, well-supported swap.
- 8th-gen Civic and newer: often K24 based already.
Always confirm your harness, ECU, and transmission match the motor. Use our fitment finder or call before ordering.
What comes with a JDM K-series
Our complete K-series long blocks are compression tested and typically include the head, block, intake manifold, and accessories as pictured. Transmissions, ECUs, and swap hardware are often sold separately — ask us to confirm exactly what is included for the unit you want.
Common K-swap mistakes
- Buying a K20 head without matching the right block for your power goal.
- Forgetting the swap needs mounts, axles, shifter, and often a different ECU.
- Skipping the compression check — always ask for the numbers.
- Mismatching the transmission to your axles.
