JDM Engine Shipping: What to Expect When Your Engine Arrives

You've ordered your JDM engine from JDM Alliance LA — now what? Here's exactly what happens from the moment your order is placed to the moment the engine is in your driveway, and what you should do when it arrives.

How JDM Engines Are Shipped

JDM engines are heavy — typically 200-500 lbs depending on the engine. They ship via freight carrier on a pallet, not via UPS or FedEx. Here's the process:

  1. Order confirmation: You receive a confirmation email with your order details within 24 hours.
  2. Processing: Your engine is inspected, compression tested (if not already done), photographed, and palletized. This takes 1-3 business days.
  3. Pickup: The freight carrier picks up your pallet from our Vernon, CA warehouse.
  4. Transit: Delivery to the lower 48 states typically takes 3-7 business days depending on your location. West Coast customers usually receive within 2-4 days.
  5. Delivery: The freight carrier calls you to schedule a delivery window. Someone must be present to receive the shipment.

What to Do When Your Engine Arrives

Before signing anything: Inspect the pallet and packaging for damage. If you see significant damage to the crate or pallet, note it on the delivery receipt before signing. Take photos immediately.

After the driver leaves: Open the packaging and inspect the engine. Look for:

  • Cracks in the block or head
  • Bent or missing sensors
  • Oil leaks around gaskets
  • Any damage that looks like it occurred during shipping

If there's damage: Contact us immediately at (442) 888-0318. Freight damage claims must be filed within 48 hours — don't wait.

Local Pickup in Los Angeles

If you're in Southern California, local pickup from our Vernon, CA warehouse is always an option — and it means you can inspect your engine before you take it home. Call us at (442) 888-0318 to schedule a pickup appointment.

Liftgate Service

Need a liftgate for delivery to a residential address? We offer liftgate service as an add-on — this means the driver will lower the pallet to the ground for you. Without a liftgate, you'll need a forklift or loading dock at the delivery location.
